Avery Wooley was born 14 weeks early, weighing just 1 lb., 5 oz. She spent 234 days in the NICU at Cook Children's fighting to survive.
Tennis has been the family sport on both sides of her family since her parents were her age. Nine years later, she's discovered her own love for the game.
This tournament was created to show our love and appreciation for the staff at Cook Children's for saving Avery's life, on multiple occasions, and for helping her become the thriving, energetic nine-year-old she is today.
More information coming soon.

The inspiration behind the Summer Scorcher: Avery's NICU Journey
Seven years ago, we set out to raise money for Cook Children's NICU, in honor of Avery Wooley, the place that saved her life and has allowed her to grow into the incredible 8-year-old she is today.
Avery was born three and half months early and spent 234 days in the NICU, eventually coming home on oxygen and with a feeding tube. Despite developmental diagnoses such as ADHD, autism and global development delays, she's thriving, thanks to the incredible care she received at
Cook Children's.

A special shoutout to McLeland Tennis Center, this year's tournament host!
McLeland is one of Fort Worth's oldest tennis facilities, built in the 1960's, and underwent a large renovation, including resurfacing all the courts, updating the pro shop and more in 2017. They have 14 outdoor courts and 2 indoor courts with programs, drills and private lessons for all ages and levels.
We also want to say a HUGE thank you to all of our 2021 participants, sponsors and donors!
Thanks to you, we were able to break a new fundraising record for the Summer Scorcher of more than $30,000 for the 2021 tournament, making our grand total for six years almost $100,000 raised for Cook Children's NICU!
